A Bespoke Box for an Award-Winning Supplier
Quality Bearings Online Ltd (QBOL) is a leading supplier of precision bearings, engineering spares, and technologically advanced lubricants. Established in Leeds, the company has grown into a truly global business. Since 2016, QBOL has focused heavily on international expansion, relaunching its website with an improved online presence to ship products to customers all over the world.
Greyhound Box has worked closely with QBOL since the start of this journey, providing packaging solutions that protect their high-value products and support their growth ambitions.
The Challenge
In early 2025, QBOL’s Warehouse Manager approached Greyhound Box with a packaging issue. Their team was experiencing occasional but significant product damage during transit, particularly with high-value tubes of lubricant.
Even a small number of breakages was costly—both financially and in terms of customer satisfaction. They needed a packaging solution that would eliminate these damages, secure the products more effectively, and provide greater peace of mind for international exports.
The Solution
Greyhound Box’s Head of Design & Marketing, Matthew, led the project. The aim was to create a bespoke design that would prevent movement, offering enhanced protection for the tubes during shipping.
Matthew designed bespoke end caps to hold the tubes securely in place, ensuring there was sufficient buffer space around each item within the outer box. This innovation not only stabilised the products but also absorbed shocks during transport, further preventing damage.
The final solution combined:
- Bespoke internal fitments, conceptualised using CAD software and produced on our Baysek machine.
- An 0201 outer box, manufactured using our TCY and Emba machinery
This simple but effective design ensured the products were fully protected throughout their journey.
The Result
Prior to this project, QBOL had been using a standard box, which, while functional, was not tailored to the unique challenges of shipping their lubricants. As a result, 10 – 15 products a month were sustaining damage in transit.
Since introducing Greyhound Box’s bespoke solution, damages have been eradicated. This has delivered significant benefits to QBOL, through the:
- Elimination of costly product replacements
- Increased customer satisfaction and confidence
- Greater efficiency and reliability in their export process
- Not a single return for the grease tubes and oil tins
